Binance.US is reportedly preparing a private financing round that could bring in up to $100 million. The capital injection would place the exchange’s valuation at roughly $1 billion, a stark contrast to the $4.5 billion pre-money valuation it achieved when it secured $200 million in seed funding back in 2022.
Potential investors and past controversies
The exchange has reportedly reached out to World Liberty Financial – a crypto-focused platform co-founded by former President Donald Trump and his sons – to gauge interest. World Liberty Financial has indicated it will not take part in the upcoming round. The two entities were previously linked through a disputed $2 billion investment that involved a United Arab Emirates-linked royalty group and the use of Binance’s USD-pegged stablecoin.
Regulatory backdrop and recent settlement
The financing effort comes after Binance Holdings Ltd. entered a settlement with U.S. regulators in 2023. Under the agreement, the parent company agreed to pay $4.3 billion in penalties, accept heightened oversight, and acknowledge compliance shortcomings. At the time, Binance’s chief executive Changpeng Zhao pleaded guilty to a felony charge, served a four-month prison term and later received a presidential pardon in 2025.
Strategic intent
Industry observers suggest the capital raise is designed to help Binance.US reclaim market share that slipped after the settlement and heightened scrutiny. By securing fresh funding, the exchange hopes to expand its product suite, improve compliance infrastructure, and compete more effectively with larger U.S. crypto platforms.
Why it matters
The proposed raise highlights the ongoing challenges Binance faces in aligning its global operations with U.S. regulatory expectations. A lower valuation signals the market’s cautious view of the exchange’s growth prospects amid legal and compliance headwinds. The outcome of this funding round could influence how other crypto firms approach capital formation and regulatory engagement in the United States.
