Michael Saylor, the executive chairman of Strategy Investment Fund, released an essay on X describing a set of five digital-asset freedoms that he believes should be protected in an economy driven by artificial intelligence and blockchain technology.
The proposed five freedoms
Saylor argues that a modern “bill of digital rights” must guarantee: 1) the ability to create new digital tokens, 2) the capacity to issue those tokens to raise capital for businesses, 3) the right to hold the tokens or select a custodian, 4) the freedom to move tokens between wallets, platforms and counterparties, and 5) the permission to spend, invest, earn income from or borrow against the tokens. He stresses that these rights should be applicable to both individuals and corporations, noting that the value of an asset is tied to the owner's ability to utilize it.
Economic rationale behind the rights
According to Saylor, the rise of AI will automate many jobs and render certain products obsolete, making rapid creation of new enterprises essential for future prosperity. By removing restrictions on digital-asset usage, he believes economies can accelerate the formation of millions of new companies and unlock greater productivity.
Strategy’s latest Bitcoin acquisition
In a related development, Strategy Investment Fund resumed its Bitcoin buying program after a two-week pause. The fund acquired 950 Bitcoin at an average price of $79,670 per coin, spending about $75.7 million. This purchase raised the fund’s total Bitcoin balance to roughly 846,000 BTC, representing an aggregate cost of $63.8 billion at an average price of $75,416 per coin. At the time of reporting, Bitcoin was trading near $84,523.
Why it matters
Saylor’s digital-rights blueprint seeks to shape policy discussions around the treatment of crypto-assets in a rapidly automating world. If adopted, such a framework could influence regulatory approaches, affect how corporations raise capital, and potentially broaden the appeal of digital assets for both investors and entrepreneurs. Simultaneously, Strategy’s continued accumulation of Bitcoin underscores confidence from one of the largest corporate holders, reinforcing Bitcoin’s position as a store of value amid evolving economic narratives.
