Mysten Labs is set to launch its Hashi Bitcoin finance network on the Sui blockchain in October, bringing more than $500 million in capital from a diverse group of launch partners. The system will allow institutional holders of Bitcoin to deploy that collateral within Sui-based decentralized finance applications.
Launch structure and timeline
The rollout will occur in phases, beginning in October, with the Hashi coalition comprising more than twenty firms. Notable participants include BitGo, Bullish, Cumberland, FalconX and Ledger, while Aftermath, Concrete and Fluid have been identified as potential vault operators. Anchorage Digital has also joined as a launch partner, offering its settlement infrastructure, self-custody wallet and plans to supply stablecoin liquidity.
How hBTC works on Sui
Hashi’s core mechanism involves locking native Bitcoin on the Bitcoin network and minting a corresponding synthetic asset, hBTC, on Sui. This token can be used across a range of DeFi primitives such as lending, borrowing, credit facilities, vaults and structured products. When a user decides to unwind a position, the hBTC tokens are burned and the underlying Bitcoin is released back to the original chain.
Partner ecosystem and services
The extensive partner network is intended to provide the necessary infrastructure for a vibrant financial marketplace. Anchorage Digital’s involvement brings institutional-grade settlement capabilities and a self-custody solution, while other partners will contribute liquidity, custodial services and vault management. The coalition’s breadth is designed to address the historical limitation that large public companies and institutions face when trying to utilize their Bitcoin holdings within existing DeFi frameworks.
Why it matters
Hashi represents one of the first large-scale efforts to bridge Bitcoin’s liquidity with a high-throughput, low-cost layer-1 platform. By tokenizing BTC on Sui, the network could unlock new yield opportunities for institutional investors who have been constrained by the technical and regulatory hurdles of traditional DeFi. The $500 million commitment signals strong confidence from major market participants and may set a precedent for similar cross-chain collateral solutions.
Why it matters
The launch could broaden the utility of Bitcoin beyond its role as a store of value, offering a bridge to fast, programmable finance on Sui. If successful, the model may inspire other blockchains to adopt comparable Bitcoin-backed tokenization schemes, potentially reshaping the landscape of institutional participation in decentralized finance.
