New York Federal Reserve President John Williams told investors that he does not foresee any further tightening of monetary policy in 2027. His remarks weakened the U.S. dollar and helped lift equity markets in Asia, creating a more favourable environment for risk-on assets such as cryptocurrencies.
Crypto price movements
In the wake of the Fed’s signal, Bitcoin edged up by roughly one and a half percent, trading just below $83,900 during Asian trading hours. Zcash led the pack with an almost 7% surge, pushing its price to around $1,270. Solana and Dogecoin each climbed about 2.5%, while Ethereum added close to 2%, reaching near $2,520. Smaller moves were recorded by XRP, Binance Coin and Hype, which gained between one and two percent, and TRON, which posted a sub-1% increase.
Broader market context
Williams also noted that a single additional hike later this year could still be appropriate, a nuance that kept the S&P 500 from falling further and nudged futures higher. In the technology sector, chipmakers such as Samsung and SK Hynix rebounded, ending a five-day slide that had earlier impacted leveraged crypto-related bets. The MSCI Asia-Pacific index rose 0.7% after two days of declines, while oil prices continued their ascent, with Brent crude up 0.7% to roughly $106 a barrel amid renewed tensions in the Middle East.
Upcoming inflation data
The next major test for the Fed’s stance will be Thursday’s U.S. inflation report. A reading cool enough to rule out another hike would give Bitcoin additional breathing room to challenge the $85,000 level. Conversely, a hotter-than-expected figure could reignite concerns about tighter policy, potentially capping the rally.
Why it matters
The Fed’s forward guidance has a direct impact on the dollar’s strength, which in turn influences crypto valuations that are often priced in the greenback. A pause in rate hikes reduces upward pressure on borrowing costs and can stimulate investor appetite for higher-risk assets, supporting Bitcoin’s climb toward key psychological thresholds. The outcome of the upcoming inflation data will be a pivotal signal for both traditional markets and the crypto sector, shaping price trajectories in the weeks ahead.
