Meanwhile, a Bermuda-registered insurer that issues life policies priced and settled in Bitcoin, announced a fresh $37.5 million financing round. The capital injection, led by Bain Capital Crypto and supported by a slate of existing backers, lifts the company’s cumulative funding to above $180 million.
Fresh capital and investor lineup
The round featured participation from Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, Apollo Global Management, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures and Morgan Creek Digital. Existing shareholders such as Bain Capital Crypto also contributed, reinforcing confidence from the venture community. The company’s backer roster includes OpenAI founder Sam Altman, who has been a vocal supporter since its inception.
Product innovation for high-net-worth clients
Earlier this year, Meanwhile launched the BTC Life 1-Pay policy, a whole-life contract that requires a single Bitcoin premium and promises a guaranteed death benefit in the same cryptocurrency. After the first policy year, holders may draw up to 90% of the cash value without repayment obligations or margin calls. The offering follows a BTC 10-Pay version that was tailored for U.S. tax considerations.
Expanding the broker footprint
To reach affluent families beyond the United States, the insurer signed fifteen brokerage partners in jurisdictions such as Switzerland, Singapore, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates. Partners like Lioner and Apeiron Group will market the Bitcoin-denominated policies to clients who already hold digital assets and seek a regulated inheritance solution.
Growing balance sheet and profitability signals
Audited figures released in April show total assets of 1,183 BTC at the end of 2025, a more than five-fold increase from the prior year, alongside statutory capital of 759 BTC. The company reported that its net long-term underwriting income already surpassed the previous year’s total and is projected to more than double during 2026, though exact amounts were not disclosed.
Regulatory foundation
Meanwhile obtained a Class IILT licence from the Bermuda Monetary Authority in July 2024 after completing a two-year sandbox program. The licence permits the insurer to hold reserves and issue policies while custodial institutions safeguard policyholder funds.
Why it matters
The infusion of capital signals strong investor belief in the viability of cryptocurrency-based insurance products. By marrying traditional life-insurance structures with Bitcoin, Meanwhile offers a regulated path for wealthy individuals to embed digital assets into estate planning. The expansion of its broker network suggests growing demand for such solutions among global high-net-worth families, potentially paving the way for broader adoption of crypto-denominated financial services.
