U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded an inflow of $134.5 million on Friday, extending a winning streak that began on September 17. Over the past seven trading sessions, the funds have attracted roughly $2.98 billion, reversing a sharp outflow episode earlier in the month. On September 15 and 16, investors withdrew a combined $746.3 million after the Senate failed to pass the Clarity Act cloture vote. The outflows on those two days were $450.4 million and $295.9 million respectively, marking the worst single-day loss since June.
Drivers Behind the Turnaround
The most notable boost came on September 21, when the ETFs absorbed nearly $1 billion in a single day – the strongest performance since October 2025. This surge helped lift Bitcoin above the average cost basis of ETF investors, estimated at $81,722 per coin. With the price of Bitcoin hovering around $84,020, the typical fund holder has moved back into profit for the first time since January.
Impact on Year-to-Date Figures
According to data from Farside Investors, net inflows for 2026 stood at $886.8 million through Thursday, a dramatic swing from the $5.69 billion deficit recorded in July. Bloomberg’s own calculations placed year-to-date flows nearer $320 million, but all trackers agree the trend has shifted positive. Cumulative net inflows since the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs now total $58.0 billion, and total assets under management have risen to $108.42 billion.
Outlook and Scale
Matching the $21.35 billion of inflows recorded in 2025 would require an average daily net addition of roughly $300 million through the end of the year. The current streak, averaging well above that figure, suggests the market could sustain a high-velocity inflow regime if investor sentiment remains favorable.
Why it matters
Spot Bitcoin ETFs serve as a primary conduit for institutional and retail investors to gain exposure to Bitcoin without handling the underlying asset. Persistent inflows signal renewed confidence in the cryptocurrency’s price trajectory and may influence broader market dynamics, including futures pricing and on-chain activity. Moreover, the shift from outflows to profit-making positions for average investors could encourage further capital allocation, reinforcing Bitcoin’s role as a mainstream investment vehicle.
