Tetra Digital Group has extended its Canadian-dollar stablecoin, CADD, to the Solana network, marking the token’s latest blockchain integration.
Expansion onto Solana
The deployment took place on September 23, 2026, adding Solana as a fourth distribution channel after earlier launches on Ethereum, Base and Tempo. By moving to Solana, CADD can leverage the platform’s low transaction fees and high throughput, offering developers a cost-effective way to settle CAD-denominated payments and transfers on-chain.
Regulatory backing and peg mechanism
CADD is presented as the first Canadian-dollar stablecoin issued by a regulated financial institution. Each token is claimed to be fully backed by Canadian-dollar reserves at a 1:1 ratio, allowing it to be used for payments, treasury operations, and settlement without converting to U.S.-dollar stablecoins first.
Risks of token imitation
Following the Solana launch, Tetra Digital warned that unauthorized tokens mimicking the CADD ticker appeared on the permissionless network. The company responded by publishing the official mint address, emphasizing that users must confirm the token’s provenance before integration. This highlights a broader challenge for regulated assets entering open blockchain ecosystems, where anyone can create a token with a familiar name.
Market context and potential impact
Stablecoin activity is heavily dominated by U.S.-dollar assets such as USDT and USDC, which command the bulk of on-chain liquidity and trading volume. A locally backed CAD stablecoin could reduce the need for Canadian users and businesses to route transactions through U.S.-dollar equivalents, fostering a more autonomous domestic crypto infrastructure. However, the extent to which Canadian participants will adopt CADD and generate meaningful on-chain liquidity remains uncertain, given the country’s relatively modest crypto market size compared with its southern neighbor.
Why it matters
The addition of CADD to Solana signals growing interest from regulated entities to provide fiat-backed tokens on diverse blockchain platforms. By offering a verified, CAD-pegged asset on a high-speed network, Tetra Digital aims to simplify cross-border payments and treasury management for Canadian enterprises. Successful adoption could pave the way for more localized stablecoins, diversifying the stablecoin ecosystem beyond the U.S. dollar and encouraging broader use of blockchain for everyday financial operations.
