Bitcoin is trading just above $83,300, edging up 0.6% over the past 24 hours while remaining roughly 3% lower than a week ago. The price action unfolds against a backdrop of elevated U.S. Treasury yields and a dollar that has gained strength, factors that analysts say are weighing on the digital asset.
Market backdrop
The 10-year Treasury yield sits at about 5.24% and the 30-year at 5.60%, levels not seen in more than two decades. Higher yields have increased the cost of holding risk-on assets, and the dollar’s rally has further challenged Bitcoin’s appeal as an alternative store of value. Despite its reputation as a hedge, recent price moves suggest investors continue to treat Bitcoin primarily as a risk asset.
Fed rate-hike expectations
Traders now see roughly a 19% chance that the Federal Reserve will raise rates by a quarter-point at its October 28 meeting, down from 22% a week earlier and 42% a month ago. Prediction-market platforms report similar odds, around 17%, indicating that expectations for a rate hike have softened. A lower probability of tighter policy could eventually support Bitcoin, but the persistently high long-term yields mean broader financial conditions have not fully eased.
ETF flows and technical range
U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds attracted about $21 million in net inflows on Friday after two consecutive days of outflows exceeding $400 million combined. The inflow signals a brief pause in the recent withdrawal trend that has drained more than $11 billion from digital-asset funds since mid-July.
Technically, Bitcoin has been confined to a band between roughly $80,300 and $87,100. A decisive break above $85,600 on strong volume could open a path toward the $87,400-plus area, while a move below $82,000 would raise the risk of a slide toward $79,000.
Why it matters
The interplay between soaring Treasury yields, a firming dollar, and evolving Fed rate expectations is shaping Bitcoin’s short-term trajectory. While the cryptocurrency remains near a key resistance zone, any shift in macro conditions—particularly a retreat in yields or a clear Fed stance—could determine whether Bitcoin resumes an uptrend or slips back toward lower support levels.
